NHP Annual report 2023-2024 is here!

Posted 10th October 2024

NHP was established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in August 2018, with its main purpose being to support local authorities (LA) to set up and manage Local House Projects (LHPs) to enable young people to leave care in a planned and supported way.

In June we celebrated our fifth birthday in Manchester and whilst much has been achieved by the charity the greatest success has been the relational approach that has developed a real sense of community. This was evident at the party as 200 young people, staff, partners, consultants and funders reflected on the many successes, caught up with friends, made new connections and made memories together. NHP is a community in which everyone belongs.

We look forward to the future and as we scale, we remain committed to ensuring that the ‘house project spirit’ drives what we do, and that each young person is given the opportunity to belong to something that supports and enables them to succeed.

Celebrating Success at the Frontline Awards
Celebrating Success at the Frontline Awards

In May, we were proud to attend the Frontline Awards to celebrate Coventry City Council’s Pathways service winning the Multi-Agency Partnership of the Year award. Funded by the Rayne Foundation, the Pathways programme brings together a number of organisations, including NHP, Coram Voice and The Rees Foundation, working closely alongside the Throughcare Service, Coventry House Project and Lifelong Links. Together, the partnership supports young people leaving care to develop skills, build positive relationships, and focus on their emotional health and wellbeing. Three cohorts of young people from Coventry have now go through the Pathways Programme. Seeing the partnership recognised nationally was a fantastic moment and a powerful reflection of the impact collaborative working can have in supporting care-experienced young people.

Aspirational Awards Update

In May, the Aspirational Awards panel awarded just over £15,000 to 19 young people across our LHPs. It was inspiring to see such a wide range of ideas, goals and determination reflected in the applications, and a privilege to support more young people as they take their next steps forward. Funding in Round 9 supported training + graduate employment scheme, equipment for a baking business and support for other businesses, sports sessions, music lessons, lifeguard course, and day trips. We have also recently completed a 3 year review of our Aspirational Awards and the impact they’ve had. Over the past 3 years, we’ve awarded over £147,000 to 138 young people (not including figures from our most recent round in May). If you would like to find out more about how to support the Aspirational Awards please get in touch.
